Sommelier for Delta Air Lines

CHANDON

Grgich Hills Estate

Trois Noix Wines

As my granddad and I used to trudge through de-suckering his tomato patch, he would explain how the yellow flowers would soon become the fruit (vegetable?) that we’d gobble like apples. He called them “shirt-soakers” because that’s the result of this particular fresh tomato-eating technique! He’d also say things like, “We’re borrowing this land from you, and you’ll be borrowing it from your grandchildren.” That’s maybe why I’m so at home in the Napa Valley, where we can see and taste the commitment to our planet and our community that pays off now in great wine, natural beauty and soil health, while paying it forward.

Ashes & Diamonds Winery

Cliff Lede

Hyde Estate Winery

As a local winemaker and Napa Green board member, I support Napa Green because it aligns with my values of stewardship and sustainability. The program helps mitigate the environmental impact of wine production and fosters a culture of responsibility within the industry. Participating Napa Green wineries and vineyards contribute to the long-term health of our land and ensure that Napa Valley remains a thriving and beautiful region for future generations. The best part is that practicing a healthy ecology allows our members to focus on what we love – creating high-quality wines that are in harmony with nature, what the French would call terroir.

Spottswoode

There are two main drags in the Napa Valley that run roughly parallel – Highway 29 and the Silverado Trail. There are many incredible Napa Green wineries (easily identifiable with their green Napa Green Certified signs) right off these roadways. But this itinerary will take you to tucked away spots run by some powerhouse women, deeply dedicated to the stewardship of the Napa Valley.

Opus One

An ideal day of tasting for me is three winery visits that give different experiences and provide a range of insights into our beautiful valley, while championing environmental practices that I hold dear.

This list is in no particular order, and represents some of my favourite (yes, I’m Australian and we put a ‘u’ in favourite) people in our beloved valley. This list is people focused for me. The ‘why’ behind each of these wineries and their teams is what I love about our Napa Green community. There are so many brilliant people in our industry who are able to remain buoyant and motivated in the face of a large and arduous task – making beautiful and soulful wines of time and place in the face of a warming climate – and they are the people I love to visit and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

As a culmination of a career spent in the wine business as a Sommelier and now a Vintner, it is an honor to say that part of my daily life now is consulting with Napa Green in the realm of sustainability and climate action in wine. On this journey I get to visit many wineries and experience intimate behind the scenes tours & tastings with the decision-makers that run these legendary places. During this time, I’ve learned that sustainability is a beautiful way of life and business.

This is not your typical itinerary – wetting your palate for wine producers that are difficult, perhaps impossible, to visit. However, if you are a wine connoisseur seeking exceptional wines from sustainability and climate leaders you should absolutely put in the effort to secure wines from Dominus, Lail, and ADAMVS.
